Sorry to be asking so many questions, but can anyone pinpoint Invergordon Castle for me. I guess that it is in Scotland somewhere. Many thanks. |

The original castle was burnt down in 1801 and replaced by an Elizabethan style mansion of 1873 which itself was demmolished. It belonged to the Gordon family, as opposed to being at the mouth of a river of that name as the 'Inver' prefix suggests. In the 1870's the estste belonged to the MacLeods of Cadboll. The estate and castle had been known as Inverbreakie until the Gordon's changed the name in the early 1800's. The name then passed to the local village, and is best known for the famous school which has provided the education of prominent members of the British Royal family.------------------ Demeure par la verite Visit my web-site at www.castlesontheweb.com/members/wurdsmiff/castles.htm Gordon. |
