I would like to find some additional information about Bampton Castle, Devonshire, England. The information I have is that King Edward III gave a Sir Richard Cogan permission to build a castle at Bampton in Devon. Here is quote I found - it is completely out of context and without a date to place it: "The Keep of Bampton Castle is now covered by large trees filled with the nests of rooks." Does anyone know what the current state of Bampton Castle is? I'd love any picture of it, an artists rendering of what it looked like in the 1300s or 1400s or a photograph of what the ruins look like today. Thank you, Kay.

Sorry Kay, there isn't much left at Bampton (which is above the river Batham). Just a mound and earth works, perhaps dated to 1136. I see Mike Salter mentions slight traces of a building to the top measuring 17mts x 8mts.
