Our family has passed a story down for almost 200 years that our 4th great grandfather, Newark Shipley Dawson, set sail and never returned and not leaving a will, the castle was put into chancellery. The family was from a small village of Newark around Workington, Cumberland, England. Any information on the possible existence of a Dawson Castle would be appreciated

I've looked through all my records, and can't find the mention of any Dawson Castle in Cumberland (now Cumbria), England. I also did a search for Newark, Cumbria, which again proved fruitless. There is a Worthington Hall (you can do a search on Google to obtain various websites) but I suspect this is not the place you are after. Sorry to be of no help whatsoever. Best regards
