I was in York quite recently. A shopping mall on the site of the old castle would utterly destroy the historic site. How on earth could someone even consider this ? I guess it's all down to MONEY !!! I know we need to accept progress and modernisation, but there are plenty of sites in York, not even far from the centre, that would suffice.

Thank you for drawing our attention to this.

Thanks. You're right to be outraged. People in York are outraged too, but the Council and their developer friends plod on with their scheme. At present we've stopped it with a Public Inquiry which lasted 6 weeks. However, this is not just a little local planning difficulty. This area is important to people the world over.
