Just a question for discussion, would you consider Hearst Castle to be an actual castle? I've been to it several times, mostly in my childhood, I have to say it was a very enchanting place. But I wonder, in the eyes of you castle goers do you see this as a castle or more of fake, someones life long dream to have a castle built as often most of us do? I only wonder this because it is so unlike the traditional castles, just wanting opinions.
Thanks!!

No...simply put its a mansion. It has a well built rock facade and has some interior aspects of the castles that were heavily remodeled through out the 14th to 19th century's. It was built with absolutely NO aspect of defense in mind and it's 'core' has even less then its exterior. It's a beautiful place and I have been there, but in my opinion its a large mansion.
