For the 1952 film 'Ivanhoe' at great expense MGM bulit an entire castle. Does anyone know where this castle is or whether it's still there?
I would be grateful for any information anyone has on this.
Thanks.

According to the IMDB and various other sources it was Doune Castle near Stirling.

Thankyou for your time but it was actually the BBC television series that was filmed at Doune Castle, not the 1952 film.
I know that two real castles were used for this film, which were Ashby De La Zouch Castle and Bamburgh Castle but there was one especially bulit for the film by MGM,which was why 'Ivanhoe' was one of the most expensive films made at the time.
I can't seem to find any information on this castle!

I used to live near the MGM castle and used to walk past the Ivanhoe castle everyday to go to school. I felt it to be the best piece of architecture in Borehamwood (Not Elstree.. To all intents and purposes no studios in Elstree. The castle was pulled down around 1962/63 as the hill it was on was needed. Or that was my understanding. The hill is still there and people walk their dogs on it.
