Hi. I have a chalk sketch of an Irish castle done by my great (great?) grandmother. I'm trying to identify it and was wondering if anyone here would be able to help, or if you know anywhere I can send the sketch to for identification. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cathy

Try posting your picture to the photo library then put a link on here. Then we'll give it our best shot.

Hi, Levan. Thanks for the quick response, but I have to ask one more question...what photo library are you talking about? Is it in this forum, or somewhere else.

Thanks,
Cathy

You can add your picture here under an appropriate category then post a link.

Thanks, Levan. I figured out how to post a photo, so now I'll put the link here. I'd appreciate any information that could help me identify this castle. It's a chalk sketch done by my great-grandmother.

hi,

the sketch is of castello Miramare on the adritiac coast near Triest, Italy. The castle was built in the 19th century for archduke Maximillian of Austria and his wife Charlotte. He was the brother of emperor Francis Joseph I of Austria and for a while emperor of Mexico.

I like your grandmother's picture - full of atmosphere! Maybe now you know where it is you could update some of the details on your picture in the photo archive - I'm sure others would appreciate it.

Well done ipflo - eagle-eyed as ever - have you been to this castle yourself?

Wow, ipflo, you are truly amazing. I can't believe I received a reply so quickly, thank you very much. Interesting that everyone in my family thought this was an Irish castle and here I find out that it's in Italy. Now the curiosity arises...did my great-grandmother do the sketch from a photo, or was she actually there? I'm not sure if I'll ever know now.

Levan, good idea, I'll update the info on the photo page for sure.

Thanks again,
Cathy
