We are planning a family trip to Great Britian and have been told there is a "Shirley Castle" there. Several years ago we in fact recieved information about a big "Shirley" reunion there. We cannot find any information about it. Can anyone help? We have found paintings/drawings of it done in the 1800s but no current information. And no, we are not looking for the Shirley Castle in Jamica.

As far as I am aware, there is no medieval castle by that name. So if it is a later castle we may not be able to help you. Or it may even go my another name? Any other information you can give us may help to track it down. Peter

"In 1777 the Hon. George Shirley made preparations to erect a castle on the high grounds of an area called the Lurgans. The design of this castle was abandoned and it was not until 1826 that the Hon. George Shirley’s grandson, Evelyn John Shirley Esq. laid the foundation of a mansion worthy of the estate near Lough Fea. This house still remains today."
