The Bran Castle is being sold!.. and the Habsburgs(they got the castle back two yers ago)want to sell it for a huge sum (speculations are being made about nine digit number) - case in which the Romanian State doesn't have much chance of buying... (not sure this is good or bad... so far the Romanian State did a very nice job in the inside - the museum is well organised, but the gardens are a total disaster...). Hope the Castle doesn't get changed into something like Vampire Wonderland...

What are the conditions? Does the buyer have to keep the castle open to the public? A nine-digit-number in Euros?!? I'm wondering who's ready to pay such an amount for a building he has to invest further millions to keep it in good shape every year... We have a similar case here in Switzerland with the (also famous) Castle Tarasp. The family of the earl of Hessen is looking for a buyer for more than two years now - without much success.

The talk about selling the castle started in January, when an American company supposedly offered 100 million euros for the castle (the Romanian Government had made a 60 million offer). The only condition, as far as I know, is that, when the owners have established a price, the Romanian government has a preemption right... Domninc of Habsburg's lawyer said that thay would preffer to sell the castle to someone willing to build a holiday resort nearby, rather than turn the castle into an amusement park. I think the price is soo high because of that @#$%# Dracula legend...

An american company? That doesn't sound too good. It would be sad to see the Castle be changed in a Hollywood-styled theme-park.
