Some time back someone asked me to identify the castle in this picture.

This is what he could tell about it: "It was among photos of my father's military service, which means the castle is probably in either the Rhone Valley or Alsace regions of France, or in Southern Germany, or in England; and the picture was probably taken in 1944 or 1945."
My own guess is that it's French. Anyone else?
