Sorry there's no 'Casper Icon'. Go to

There are a few at,
www.scotland2000.com/weeguides/index.htm
And here's one of mine;
BEDLAY CASTLE(***)
North Lanarkshire
To the rear of the property a remnant of the old Glasgow to Stirling coach roads survives as a lane following the Bothlyn Burn from Chryston to Bedlay Cemetery. A gate from the garden opens on to this, and it is said that on a summers evening, a coach and horses can be heard. The spectre of a young girl follows, then a scream, and complete silence deadens even the rustling of the trees in the wind.
In the 1970s the apparition of a large bearded man was reported moving around the castle. Another spooky visitor is believed to represent Bishop Cameron, who died in suspicious circumstances in 1350, having been found face down in the local loch, now known as 'Bishop's Loch'
When the Campbells moved in (18th century) , they built themselves a mausoleum in the gardens. Spectral appearances were reported and associated with the hooting of owls. The ghosts apparently left when the family had the mausoleum relocated to Lambhill Cemetery.

Castle Levan is reputed to have a ghost - not that we've ever seen her!

A former keeper of Castle Levan, Lady Marion Montgomery was convicted and sentanced to death by Mary of Guise (mother of Mary Queen of Scots) for torturing and murdering her tenants. This sentance was later commuted to house arrest (I don't suppose her tenants appreciated this leniency). However, on his return from military service, Marion's husband was so appauled to hear of his wife's behaviour that he imprisoned Marion and starved her to death.

In the 17th Century, Castle Levan was taken over by the Semple-Stewarts of the neighbouring Ardgowan estate who installed their son into Levan. It is during this era that a 'White Lady', assumed to Marion Montgomery, was reputed to haunt the castle.

Some have suggested, however, that the story of the White Lady was concocted by the young Semple-Stewart (weary of the idea of living in a stuffy old fashioned castle) as a means for persuaduing his father to stump-up the cash needed to build him a fashionable new house.

The castle at this point was left to fall into ruin as a kind of folly in the new manor house's gardens. Ironic, I suppose, but the georgian-style manor house also fell into ruin during the late 20th Century while the old Castle was being restored. Happily, in this last year, Castle Levan Manor has been restored also, albeit as executive flats.

These are links to pages dedicated to haunted castles:
http://scottishculture.miningco.com/culture/scottishculture/library/weekly/aa041799.htm
http://www.castles-of-britain.com/castle94.htm

I'm sure I remember others - just can't find the URLs - you'll have to do your own research from here!
