I would like know if anyone can give me info on the styles of castles and/or architecture of Elizabethan England. It's for a school project and I am 15 years old. I need to get some books, if that is possible, on the subject. I would like this as quickly as possible if anyone out there can help, please e-mail me. Thank you.

In the strictest definition of castle (A fortified residence of a lord) there were no castles built in Elizabeths reign in England. However, if you allow for purely military fortifications and lightly fortified domestic accomadation there were a few 'castles'. Upnor castle in Kent (see http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/AndrewMuller/upnor.html was a small coastal battery. The walls of Berwick on Tweed were expanded in Elizabeths time with angle-bastions and arrow-head earthworks. Some bastlehouse (thickwalled two storey farmhouses designed to keep the cattle safe in the lower storey) also date from this time although most are earlier. As for books ask the librarian at your local library. Librarian are usually very helpful.
