![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hi. I'm 12 years old and we're currently doing medieval life in History and kately been doing work on different kinds of castles and the feudal system. On Thursday we found out that we are having an assessment on castles where we are going to sit down for 45 minutes with a writing plan and just write a detailed piece on ordinary life in a castle for the different people. On our next History lesson on Tuesday 12th, we will be taking our sources into school and making notes, which we have to remember. On Wednesday 13th we will be having the actual assessment and will have nothing but our writing plan with some sub-titles to jog our memories. Basically I need some very detailed information on what castle life was like for the occupants in peacetime - the women, the servants, the nobles, etc. I've looked in Encarta 2000 Deluxe and have checked out it's relevant web links, but to no avail. I've searched through about 10 or 15 different pages in the last hour and found totally different details. ![]() ![]() ![]() Could you perhaps check the "Life inside a castle" forum? There must be information there... [This message has been edited by fafwolf (edited 12-09-2000).] |

![]() ![]() Online resources are a bit poor, but it looks like you don't quite have enough time to get to a good library and get some of the excellent books that there are. (see my recommendation in the New Members topic in this forum. However try the following links, http://www.castlewales.com/life.html http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/lostempires/trebuchet/castle.html http://www.kyrene.k12.az.us/schools/Brisas/sunda/ma/mahome.htm

![]() ![]() Some of this may be aimed at an older age group, and with a specific slant on female lifestyles, but it's worth checking out http://www.millersv.edu/~english/homepage/duncan/medfem/domestic.html ------------------ Gordon. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for the links guys. I've checked out the post for helping new members and I'm just going to have a look at the "Life in a castle" area of the forum. I looked over it before but thought it'd be better to post in the school projects part. I've looked over the different websites and I've got a good foundation from one or two of them. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Today I have my next history lesson. I walk in, with only the first page of all my resources (having mistakenly printed out only the first page of all of them) and fully expect to start making notes. But no. My history teacher starts to talk about how people haven't handed homework in and how our history books' tables of contents aren't kept up to date. Then... ...she tells us that we won't be having the assignment this term and we'll have to wait until after the Christmas school holidays, effectively telling us that our project is postponed until early January. I'm about to go "Yipee" when we get our homework - write about life in a castle for the different kinds of people. If anybody could point me to some good books I might find in my local library then that might help quite a lot. |
