i am 15 and doing a project on castles
can any1 tell me y they were used less frequently in da 16th century

Not always Ro-Dude.
Depends which country in Europe you study. It may have been the case in much of the U.K. But only with greater castles. Tower Houses and other fortifications persisted into early 18th century.
In somewhere like Italy, many castles were updated to take cannon. Which prolonged their active life.
The main reason for their demise was in general a more stable society. This allowed the Lord of the castle to build a warmer cosier mansion nearby.

You are right Peter!
Castles declined because there was a more stable government and also because of gunpowder. Thick walls were useless against cannons.
