I am in 10th grade and I am supposed to write a report on real European castles from the Middle Ages. The problem is that there are so many castles I am having a difficult time determining which castles I should use. If someone has a list most famous or historically significant castles in Europe that would be great. I could use about ten or more examples. |

You ask a very intelligent question and it's good to see you are ready to do independant research. I'll try and give you some names of well known castles which should have good information available, with a range of ages representing various levels of development in castle design. Firstly, here are a couple of general sites on castle development and related topics; http://www.castlexplorer.co.uk/medieval-castles.php http://www.castles-of-britain.com/castle6.htm Dover castle, England.(With a Norman keep) I hope that's a good start. If you are stuck on a certain aspect or looking for an example of a castle with certain characteristics, just ask. Erik |
