I need all answers to the following question:
How did the architectural evolution of the medieval castle take place?
(meaning, how did castles change in size, shape, & form through history)

Hi Adela,
Unfortunately you are unlikely to get a sufficient responce from us here. The subject you have given is a vast and complex one, and we couldn't possibly hope to answer it for you in any meaningful way.
Your best bet would be to try your local library. The books held there tend to all have good, basic overviews of castle development and will have pictures to illustrate each point.

One point I would like to make, is that 'Castles' in the true sense existed only from about the 9th century until the later part of the 15th. The castle was the fortified dwelling of the feudal land owner, from which the surrounding land, as well as strategic routes, were controlled. The castle was a product of the fuedal system and was made redundant by the development of efficient artillary.

Happy researching. If you have any specific questions we might be able to answer that you cannot get from the books, just ask and we'll try our best to help you out.

In fact an answer to this question could be compiled using information given in previous repilies. try taking the often repeated advice of using our search mode (link below 'Post Reply') and try putting in a kew word such as 'development'. There's plenty here if you take the time to look.
