Have you tried reading Life In A Castle, like the eyewitness books. I remember reading something about servants in there Hope it helps, and good luck on your project Marie |

Hi, not quite my subject. But you can believe it was a very hard life. And they rose very early in the morning, summer & winter. And went to bed very late. And no doubt the only time they had off was Sunday for prayer. Most servants worked and lived in the kitchens or rooms attached to them. Only favoured people slept upstairs in the main hall. Kitchen scullions, children your age and much younger were privilaged to sleep under the kitchen table, and be near the ovens. Even this hard life was prefered to living outside the castle, in what could be, at times, a very hostile world.Peter |
