Hi! I am 12 and i need a bit of help on an XL Task. The question is, How and Why did the Design of Castles change Between 1066 and 1666? I can't find anything. I have done the Motte and Bailey and Stone Keep, but need help on a few others!!! Please help me. It is due in on the 3rd of March! HELP! If anyone could hel me, i would really appriciate it! Forgive me for any spelling mistakes! Sorry. Thank you very much!

You could look at the concentric castles of Wales built around 1300-Caernarvon is a good example. I think you can safely say that all design changes were due to the advances in weaponry and the builder wanting to look good! A castle was a status symbol and deterrent to any would-be attacker. I think Caernarvon was built by Edward I. (not personally!) By the 1600s, the High Middle Ages were over and gunpowder could have blown any castle apart.

I hope this helps a little - it should give you a starting point anyway!
