Built by Frederick Barbarossa around 1200, Hohenecken Castle (Burg Hohenecken) in the Rhineland Palatinate (Rheinpfalz) near Kaiserslautern, Germany, has stood in ruins since the French blew it up in 1688. A favorite tourist spot for the very large American military communities in the area.
