[This message has been edited by Maria (edited 09-20-2004).] ------------------kc55 I need to discuss the castle marketplace for my school project, and I have a few questions. First, what were some diseases found in the marketplace, and what caused them? Also, what were the benefits of having a permanent cart as apposed to a moveable one? And lastly, where can I find pictures (either drawings or real pictures) of medieval marketplaces? I know this is a lot, but I really need help! Thanks! Maria Well, normaly the market wasn't inside the castle. You could find permanent markets in towns(the subject of diseases being connected with the subject of dirty towns), and markets were organised near vilages, something like once a week. People came from miles around to sell their merchandise. More about how this was done on http://www.warrington.gov.uk/entertainment/heritage/market.htm , where you'll find some pictures.
Pictures also on http://www.granta.demon.co.uk/92003mm.html deborahknowles I suppose the advantage of having a permanent cart was that
a)you got a good pitch
b) people would know where to find your mechandise
hope this helps!Levan For some more information and links about market places, take a look at the following previous discussion topic:
