For those of you that haven't seen this site yet, check it out; http://www.guedelon.com/ In english; http://www.guedelon.com/gb/navig/CF_1_bienvenue.htm A group of 35 workers are using medieval techniques to construct a castle from the ground up, and intending to take 20-25 years to do it. The whole project is supervised by historians and runs as a museum exhibit. Erik [This message has been edited by Erik Schmidt (edited 10-19-2001).] |

Thanks Duncan, I figured some people on the forum know about it, but I just hadn't heard it mentioned. The post you linked was from last century('99), so about time it was mentioned again. Erik |

No Gordon, I certainly wouldn't do that. I really appreciate the contributions of the elderly, so I wouldn't wan't to offend you. Oooppps. Did I say that? I have no idea of your age Gordon, or most other people on the forum for that matter, so don't go giving anything away. Erik |

I'm not really as old as I've made myself sound, but in the good old days I can remember when youngsters had more respect for their elders and we used to be able to fish in the moat. The gatekeeper always had a funny look in his eye when mum went past. He had thick red hair like my brother's... Strange that, Dad always wondered where that came from when the rest of us all had black hair. He always said that it was because Mum took notions for strawberries when she was pregnant, but I blame the wine................ |

Yeah, I've read about those days. When sewerage flowed freely to the moat and before genetic testing had cleared "the wine" of blame. Also about the time that the bath was a twice yearly ritual. Life was so much better in the olden days!Erik |

Hi I have a Question??What do you people do for a job? I was wondering how you have the time to help people with projects and stuff? I think it is wonderful but I wouldn't have the time! Amanda |

We make time. There are plenty of other things I should be doing.Erik |

I work hard endeavouring to expand my knowledge of British castles, and occasionally turn up here to answer questions. In my spare time I sort out problems for a ship-owning company.Or was it the other way round ? I never could be sure. |

Time is relevant, depending on what i want to do at the moment and if i'm any where near the PC. I agree with Andrew and Eric, for me I'm ditching work i should be doing. {playing hooky!!! people never grow up!} |
