I can't find anything on castle feifs. I mean I know all about them but I need a diagram of one for a projecet that's due Monday and we've worked on it all week! If anyone can get me a good diagram of how a feif would work please e-mail me.

A feif is the village around the castel. like a town. I needed to know who would be housed closest to the castel and how the village layout would be. I't due today and I'm not sure I can get this web site at school. I just hope my idea works!

Now that I think about you actually spell it Fief. That might make more sense. Now that the project is over I get the joys of roming the site freely. from what I've seen it's a really neat site.

My english/german-dictionnary tells me "fief = Lehen". That would not have to be a village or town, but possessions and/or rights that were given from the owner to someone else to keep them for him. This was how the feudal system was organized.

A simple example for a fief: The king gave a royal possession, two villages and some acres, to a knight - which in return had to be ready to go to war with his men whenever called to.

See the following site for some clips from real historic documents about fiefdom:

A description of a fief: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fief

Another, more readable site: http://library.thinkquest.org/10949/fief/medintro.fief.html

My world history teacher definetly didn't know what he was talking about in that case. Thanks for all the help.
