Should your name be here?
Having a surname which is obviously related to the building of castles particularly, and knowing many other trade related surnames, I invite you all to add to the following short list of names which describe the trade carried out by the originator. It doesn't have to be an English language name, though an English explanation would help!
Elaboration/correction of the explanations is also welcome!Mason, a skilled craftsman in stone working, and my own surname.
Fletcher, a man who feathered arrows.
Napier, A person who cared for the linen of the house.
Smith, a worker in metal, wether a Blacksmith(iron), silversmith goldsmith etc.
Stewart, a steward or 'housekeeper'.
Butler, a manservant.
Falconer, a trainer/keeper of falcons.
Tranter, a retreiver of the hawks and their kill.
I know many others, but leave the rest up to you! Castle related occupations of particular interest.
