Hey i just stumbled onto this site and wanted to ask for a little help.
Is it really feasible to build a 5000-6000sq.ft timber framed castle? If so how long will a structure of this nature last in comparison to a conventionally built castle?
Also has anyone done any exstensive research on secret passage ways or hidden rooms? Any help in these departments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for everyones time. This is a great site!

Feasibility all depends on your willingness and your temporal and finacial situation.

Timber framed structures don't last as long as stone ones, but there are quite a number of surviving timber framed structures which are 400-500 years old. Long enough?

If you are wanting to build an authentic military castle(as opposed to a palace or manor house) you must use stone for constructing the defences. Timber framing was used in many castles for the upper levels and inward facing walls, but not for the defensive walls. Let us know if you need links to pictures of timber framing used in castles.

There were two other threads(at least) somewhere on the Castle Quest forums which deal with secret passages, but nothing on hidden rooms as far as I know. Someone else may post the links to the threads.

Jahjah, are you thinking of a later period castle with parts that are like timber-framed buildings? I refer to Stokesay castle of course: http://www.castlegate.net/CASTLES/Stokesay/

Or perhaps some of the earlier fortresses which were made mostly or entirely of wood?

Just a thought;
You may find something in eastern Europe and southern Russia. Many semi-fortified churches etc. were built in these regions, entirely of wood.
Towns were surrounded by earthen banks, the gateways then being built of wood. And though easily destroyed (by fire etc), could quickly be built again.
