I am looking for any information on Caretson Castle. I am not sure where it is located, maybe in Tayside. I am trying to put together a book of Scotland for my Nana who moved to Prince Edward Island 54 years ago, from Glasgow. She is getting older and does not remember the exact names of places. When she was in her 20's she worked at a castle called Careston, or something along the same spelling/sound. Any help would be appreciated in this area. I can't seem to find any information. Thank-you in advance for any help, Lori |

Careston Csatle stands about 4 1/2 miles west of Brechin, someway north of Tayside. It is still privately owned and occupied. It is a 17th c Z-plan house of 4 storeys plus a garret, though has been altered and extended on several occasions. It was a property of the Dempster family, sold to the Lindsays, Carnegies and then the Stewarts of Grandtully in 1707. One of the Dempsters had an on going feud with the Bishop of Brechin over a land grant, and was involved in the theft of horses, cattle, and the kidnapping of monks. ------------------ Demeure par la verite Visit my web-site at www.castlesontheweb.com/members/wurdsmiff/castles.htm Gordon. | |
