Good question. I would like such info myself. I know that there was little furniture. Mostly tressle tables and benches for the hall and chests were a common way of storing things. As for the walls, from what archaeologists say and the remaining examples from that time, the interior walls of castles were heavily decorated, usually in paint over lime 'plaster'. The paintings would have been composed of patterns and scenes from life, such as hunting, as well as religious themes and scenes commemorating battles and so on. The amount of decoration would no doubt have reflected the wealth of the owner.Floors don't seem to have had the same consideration as today. They don't seem to have been kept clean. I have read suggestions they were strewn with sand and straw, but that may have been confined to the feasting hall. Erik Erik |
