But in the northern kingdoms of german/anglo-saxon tradition the (male) bloodline was much more important than in Old Rome. There is a theory about an adopted prince in late merovingian France - I'll try to find out the name.

Levan Moderator	posted 09-19-2006 01:21 PM In most european countries, unlike the Roman empire, any adopted child would certainly be surplanted by "bloodline" heirs to the throne - even distant relatives in many cases would have a greater claim to the throne.
