Ponce de Leon is famed for his futile search for the Fountain of Youth (this expedition was financed by King Ferdanand of Spain so don't tell me this has nothing with castles!)For some reason, my Social Studies teacher wants me to find out what languages Captain Ponce de Leon spoke. Can anybody help me out here? This project is our whole grade this semester. Even if you can't, do you know of any good websites that give info on the Spainish conquistadors? Thanks for your time!~Radella

But it doesn't have anything to do with castles, other than both castles and your subject are historical, and that the subject of your question was employed by someone who presumably owned one or two. I can't answer your question, but maybe you'll be luckier with someone else!

Let me get this straight, you are asking what language a Spanish explorer spoke? Any spoken dialect he might have encounterd would most likly have been a deviation of his native tounge. Even when he voyaged with C. Columbus they stayed in the area of the world where the indians understood the language. In fact they are the ones who gave him the hints as to where the fountain might be, kind of like getting directions from some one who is sending you about 10 miles out of the way.
Your right about one thing, this question has nothing to do with Castles!!!
Maybe the search for the fountain of youth on Easter Sunday and Montazumas revenge becouse he drank out of every spring he came to no matter where it was and in Florida's swamps maybe that was not such a good idea.

you make a good point duncan. Actaully, my teacher wants us to know what other languages he might have spoken. (ie portugese, french, etc)This seems to be the only place to get good historically acurate (and hard to find) info on "castles". Is suppose I'll have to ask my teacher about this particular query...

As far as i know Portugese is and was one of the deviations i spoke of and none of my books even hint at his knowing any other dialect.
A Linguistics search is a bit off the beaten path for castles but if any one knows i'm sure they will help you.

On a little known tangent of his exploration, the Spanish are credited with driving the Mandan tribe out of the mississippi region and much of what is known about them comes from Spain. http://www.castlesontheweb.com/quest/Forum1/HTML/000076.html
