Can someone please give me a description of what 15th century castles were like? Also could you tell me the strengths and weaknesses of 15th century castles? Also does anyone know why castles changed form the concentric style to the later style for example at Raglan Castle? I have tried looking all across the internet but i can't find much information about this. I would be so grateful for some help. Thanx |

Hello Nick, to answer your questions would take an essay, all I can do is point you in the direction of the book by Marc Morris entitled "Castle" In his book Marc covers the decline of castles and also has a section in reference to Raglan castle and the siege during the English civil war explaining why castles were not the almost impenetrable building that they were in the earlier middle ages. I think I'm going to take a look at that book. do you have a copy paul? where was it published? I am not sure whether or not I could find it over here. I could probably manage an interlibrary loan but it would take a while to get it. |

The Decline of the Castle, by M.W. Thompson (1987), ISBN 1 85422 608 8. reprinted in cheaper form some years ago covers everything in the decline subject. Peter |
